Holtzhauer, PhD
Frank Holtzhauer
is co-director for the Ohio arm of the Pennsylvania and Ohio Public
Health Training Center and the Academic Preparedness Center. He
serves as assistant to the dean and as the director of the Office
of Workforce Development at Ohio State University School of Public
Health. Holtzhauer is also the public health practice coordinator
to the Association of Schools of Public Health. His areas of interest
include a range of issues from public health workforce development
to violence as a public health issue, Reye’s syndrome, Toxic Shock
syndrome, and infectious diseases including Legionnaires disease.
Holtzhauer holds
a PhD in preventive medicine from The Ohio State University. Launching
his career in public health as a field epidemiologist with the Ohio
Department of Health (ODH), Holtzhauer moved through the ranks to
become the chief of the Division of Epidemiology. After 15 years
at the state level, he became the assistant health commissioner
in Columbus, where he headed the Division of Ambulatory Services,
and then served as leader of the Assessment and Health Information
Cluster. Thirteen years later, Holtzhauer returned to the ODH and
served as deputy director for three years before retiring.
Hotlzhauer is
an active in the Ohio and American Public Health Associations and
the Associations of Schools of Public Health. Holtzhauer has served
on numerous committees, two CEPH accreditation teams, and has participated
in advisory committees of the National Center for Health Statistics.
He has also served on Special Study Panels for the CDC and the NIH.
Holtzhauer is widely recognized for his ongoing contributions during
his 31 years of research and leadership in public health. |
