The ATSDR ToxFAQsTM is a series of summaries about hazardous substances developed by the ATSDR Division of Toxicology. Information for this series is excerpted from the ATSDR Toxicological Profiles and Public Health Statements. Each fact sheet serves as a quick and easy to understand guide. Answers are provided to the most frequently asked questions (FAQs) about exposure to hazardous substances found around hazardous waste sites and the effects of exposure on human health.

EnviroDx http://library.med.utah.edu/envirodx/

EnviroDx is a multimedia, case-focused, computer-based learning program on environmental-related diseases. The organizing metaphor for EnviroDx is an exploratory "virtual clinic" affiliated with a busy medical school. The program user takes the part of a practicing physician faced with a patient with an unknown disease or condition that is possibly caused by exposure to environmental factors.

EPA Environfacts Data Warehouse http://www.epa.gov/enviro/index_java.html

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) created the Envirofacts Warehouse to provide the public with direct access to the wealth of information contained in its databases. The Envirofacts Warehouse allows you to retrieve environmental information from EPA databases on Air, Chemicals, Facility Information, Grants/Funding, Hazardous Waste, Superfund, Toxic Releases, and Water Permits, Drinking Water, Drinking Water Contaminant Occurrence, and Drinking Water Microbial and Disinfection Byproduct Information (Information Collection Rule [ICR]). You may retrieve information from several databases at once, or from one database at a time. Online queries allow you to retrieve data from these sources and create reports, or you may generate maps of environmental information by selecting from several Mapping Applications.

MSDS are designed to provide both workers and emergency personnel with the proper procedures for handling or working with specific substances. A MSDS will include information such as physical data (melting point, boiling point, flash point etc.), toxicity, health effects, first aid, reactivity, storage, disposal, protective equipment, and spill/leak procedures. These are of particular use if a spill or other accident occurs.

Recognition and Management of Pesticide Poisonings, 5th Edition, March 1999 http://www.epa.gov/pesticides/safety/healthcare/handbook/handbook.htm

This edition covers about 1500 pesticide products in an easy-to-use format. The first three chapters deal with background information - general principles in the management of acute pesticide poisonings, taking an occupational and environmental history, and resource listing (hotlines, web sites and description of pertinent governmental and non-governmental organizations). English and Spanish versions of the text are accessible on-line or a hard copy can be ordered at the web site.
